William D. Welch
William Dewitt Welch passed away at his home near Vaiden on December 25th. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, December 27th, at the Vaiden Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Cooper of Vaiden assisted by the Rev. Curtis Ellis of West officiating. Interment was in Vaiden cemetery under the direction of Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Welch was born in Carroll County on October 27, 1891. On October 13, 1913, he married the former Miss Connie Self who survives. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of West.
In addition to his wife, survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Bessie Cook, Greenville, Mrs. Al Chiappins of New York City, Mrs. Benson Branch, Jr., of Winona, Mrs. Martha Wilks, Durant, Miss Florence Welch and Miss Lorene Welch, both of Vaiden; six sons, R. W. Welch, Greenville, Albert Welch, Jackson, Vernon Welch, Hermon Welch and Dennis Earl Welch, all of Vaiden, and Dewitt S. Welch, Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Mary Gant of Drew; three brothers, Charlie Welch and Vassar Welch of Vaiden, Lonnie Welch of Greenwood; and 19 grandchildren.
