St. Anna—Mrs Jacob Steffes, for the past fifteen years a resident of St. Anna, died at 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at her home. Death was due to a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning at St. Anna Church, Rev. John ???will officiate and interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Steffes, nee Gerturde Dietzen was born on August 18, 1862, at Mount Calvary, where she lived with her parents until she was united in marriage on October 23, ???? to Jacob Steffes of St. Joe. The ceremony was performed at Mount Calvary. The couple then lived on a farm at St. Joe and ?????////????///???. The couple then moved to the village of St. Anna, where they lived since. Mrs. Steffes' husband survives.
The union was blessed by seven children, five of whom survive. They are four daughters, Mrs. Peter Weber of Marytown; Mrs. Peter Brandt, Mrs. John Buechel and Mrs. Alvis Brandt, and a son Joseph, all of St. Anna. One son died at the age of twenty years, and a daughter at the age of sixteen. Mrs. Steffes also leaves to mourn her death a brother, Matthew Dietzen, and a sister, Mrs. Joseph Holzman of Mount Calvary, and nine grandchildren.
The deceased was a loyal member of the Christian Mother's society and a devout member of St. Ann's church. Her death is being mourned by all residents of St. Anna and vicinity, where she had a host of friends.
