She was preceded in death by her husband, George Kamper, on Aug. 5, 1995; and a son, Lynn Jay Wieser.

Those left to cherish her memory are: daughters, Joleen Carrillo, Colleen (Pete, Jr.) DeLeon, Dorleen Kamper (Chuck Jakubowski), Arleen Kamper (Payday Galvan), all of Grand Island, Kathleen (Takeo) Kamper-Utsumi of Denver and Gayleen Kamper (Greg Bjerke) of Greeley, Colo; grandchildren, Steve (Stephanie) Kamper, Jason Wieczorek, David DeLeon and Cristina DeLeon; three great-grandchildren, Michaela Rippe, Adam Kamper and Kaylee Kamper; and a host of friends and relatives.

She was also preceded in death by grandson, T.J. Martin; her parents; brothers, Don and Wayne Borre; sisters, Vivian Moffett, Doris Berney, Lorraine Moffett, Wanda Nelson, Billie Fiese and Jeane Berney; and son-in-law, Victor Carrillo.

JoAnn spent her childhood on a farm in Howard County; graduating from Wolbach High School in 1947. She married Lloyd Wieser on Aug. 11, 1948. To this union a son, Lynn Jay, was born. While serving in the U.S. Army, Lynn Jay was killed in action on May 13, 1969, during a tour of duty in Vietnam.

On Feb. 19, 1955, she married George M. Kamper. The couple made their home in Grand Island, where JoAnn worked at the Nebraska Veterans' Home as a nurse's aide for 25 years. After retiring in 1992, JoAnn volunteered at the Grand Island Veterans Home, where she continued to give of herself and was recognized for 6,750 hours of volunteer service. She eventually became a resident of the Home in 2006, due to failing health.

JoAnn will be remembered as someone who always put others' needs before her own. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed making food for friends and family. Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting items, which she gave away as gifts. JoAnn loved to dance, play cards and listen to country music. She liked to be outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and taking 'road trips' with her daughters. JoAnn was a devoted grandma who spent many hours caring for her grandchildren and taking them for walks to the park. She had a special place in her heart for small animals and cared for many pets throughout the years.
