George G Gillett was the son of C Marcus Gillett 1781 and Lucinda Manchester.

He was born while his father was living in Middlefield, Otsego, New York. The family lived there until 1837 then moved to Mexico, Oswego, New York.

In Mexico, George married Nancy Jane Springer about 1852. The couple moved to Brasher, Saint Lawrence County, New York, by 1860. This is almost on the northern tip of New York state. By the 1900 census, the couple had 5 children, only two of whom (Hallie and Charles) were living by the turn of the century.

Children of George and Nancy:

Frances P, born 1852, married Clarence Delmont Gaylord, lived in Cato, Cayuga, New York. No known children.

Elfnora, born 1854, probably died young.

Dr Charles A, born 1855, went to Albany Medical College, married Sarah Sadie Fay. He practiced medicine in Syracuse and Lafayette, New York. He opened the first drug store in Lafayette, New York. The couple had one son, Leon.

Hallie May Gillett, born 1860, moved with her mother back to Oswego County, New York. She married Lucian Caleb Carr, and lived in Williamstown and Amsterdam, New York. The couple had one daughter, Edna.

Unknown child. There is no information on the fifth child. The child probably died young.

In 1867, George married Clara Fulford. Nancy and her children continued to live in Saint Lawrence County, New York, although later they moved back to the Oswego County area where the Nancy and George were raised and married.

George may have met Clara, who lived in Livingston Couny, Michigan, while visiting one of his brothers John B, Horace, Nathan or Daniel who lived in Ingham, Eaton, or Kent Counties, Michigan.

By 1880 George and Clara had moved to Sherman, Nebraska. They took a homestead in Custer County in 1883. George's brother Nathan had taken a homestead in the same area. Later George and Clara moved to Burwell, Garfield County, Nebraska.

They had one child, Harris Gillette, who married Clara Michelson, lived in Center, Greely, Nebraska, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, and had 6 children.

George was buried in the Banner Cemetery in Burwell, Garfield, Nebraska by cemetery records, but there is no marker. He was buried on the west side of the cemetery, according to cemetery records.
