Horace Gillett was the son of C Marcus Gillett 1781 and Lucinda Manchester.

He married in about 1835, Henrietta Pratt daughter of Thomas Pratt and Louisanna Jones in the Middlefield area of Otsego County. The couple moved along with his parents family from Middlefield, Otsego to Mexico, Oswego about 1837. Henrietta died in 1838 with two living children Truman and Mahala.

Their son Truman Freeman Gillett (1837-1860) spent all of his life in Oswego county. He was an Insurance Agent in Oswego City. Truman married Lucy Kelogg, and had two children, Sumner Gillett (1861- 1930 or later) who moved to Syracuse, and May (Charles S) Bullis, who moved to Syracuse.

Horace and Henrietta also had a daughter Mahala Gillett, who married William Cornell, and moved eventually to Van Buren, Onondaga after spending some time in Michigan.

After Henrietta died, Horace married Clarinda Winchell in 1861. They moved to Lysander, Onondaga, New York. They had two additional children, William Herbert 1866 and Chauncy 1869. In 1870 they moved to Eaton Rapids, Michigan with Horace's brother Nathan, close to where his brother John B had moved in Ingham County, Michigan. Clarinda died there in 1872, then Horace returned with his children to Onondaga County, New York.

Horace's child William Herbert 1866 married Minnie Peck, lived in Baldwinsville and Syracuse, had three children, and married a second time. Horace's child Chauncey married Katherine A Hanley, and lived in Van Buren, Onondaga, New York.

Horace married a third wife Monnie and moved back to Van Buren, Onondaga by 1880. He died in VanBuren in 1900. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery which was combined with Riverview Cemetery.

Horace Gillett died at his home in Van Buren Tuesday, October 30, 1900, aged 85 years. Funeral was held at the house this morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. J. C. B. Moyer officiating. Burial in Riverside cemetery.
