German Gillett was the son of C Marcus Gillett and Lucinda Manchester. He was born while the family was living in Middlefield, Otsego County, New York. The family moved to Mexico, Oswego County, New York by 1837. There he met and married Miranda Elmira Kenyon, the daughter of Joseph Kenyon and Sally about 1843.
He operated a stagecoach in Mexico, Oswego, New York until 1863 when the railroad came to Mexico. Then he moved to Wolcott, Wayne County, New York and continued to operate a stagecoach until the railroad came to Wolcott about 1874, at which time he switched to the bus, mail, and express business.
By his first wife he had one daughter, Grace Maud (George) Roe 1862 of Wolcott.
After his first wife Miranda died in 1881, he married 2 or 3 times, but only had the one child. He died in Wolcott at age 82.
His second wife was Celestia who died in 1896. He married Addie about 1900 who died about 1904. He married Abigail about 1905.
