Sarah Jane Pinkerton was the daughter of James Pinkerton (1815-1869) who was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania; and Eva Ann (Garber) Pinkerton (1830-1914) who was born in Coshocton County, Ohio.

On January 2, 1890 on the Noah Motter farm in Nineveh Township of Adair County, Missouri, Sarah Jane married Ezekiel Bennett, Jr. Ezekiel's first wife, Mary Frances "Fanny" (Edwards) had died in 1887 leaving him with two children whom Sarah Jane helped raise after her marriage to Ezekiel:

Dove (Bennett) Hinkel (1878-1945)

Sarah Jane and Ezekiel had three children of their own:

Grover "George" Talmage Bennett (1893-1964)
Pansy Victoria (Bennett) Gordon (1895-1981)
Infant Bennett who lived only a short time.

Sarah Jane's husband was not only a farmer but a man of many trades and talents. He was a builder who purchased lots in the city of Kirksville, Mo. and built houses for resale. He was also a shoe cobbler and a violin maker.

Ezekiel built a home for his family on 5 acres north of Kirksville, Mo. on what is now Northtown Road.

Ezekiel died in 1919 and was buried beside his first wife at Bear Creek Cemetery in Adair County, Missouri. Sarah Jane died in 1932 at the home of her son Grover "George" Bennett in Iowa where he was a high school band teacher. She was buried at Mulberry Cemetery next to her parents, a brother, and her infant child.
