Mother of Two Prominent Photographers Had Lived Here Many Years
By the death of Mrs. Ellen Curtis of 973 John Street, Seattle loses another of the early residents of the city. Mrs. Curtis was 68 years old, and she died on Wednesday rather suddenly, after many years of invalidism. She was the mother of Edward S. Curtis, the distinguished Indian historian and photographer, and of Asahel Curtis, the landscape photographer, and of Ray Curtis, of Portland. Miss Eva Curtis, her daughter, also survives her.
The late Mrs. Curtis was born in New York City in 1844 and accompanied her husband to Seattle in the early 1880s. Mr. Curtis died here in 1888.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock next Sunday afternoon at Butterworth's establishment. Seattle Post Intelligencer, Friday, December 13, 1912
