Death Closes Life of Many Years

Mrs. Elizabeth Loxley Sheriff, one of the oldest women in this section of the state, closed a long and peaceful life on Sunday, June 30th. Mrs. Sheriff's home north of the city has long been the mecca of those needing contact with one of supreme faith. Her passing will be learned with deep regret although she had been spared far beyond her allotted time.

She was born at Worcester, England, on August 20th, 1820 and was married 21 years later to Charles Sherriff whose death occurred in December of 1903. The farm north of Whitewater has been her home since 1855, twelve years after she and her husband arrived in America to make their fortune.

Of the eleven children both to them, five survive her; D. Walter Sheriff and Fred Sheriff who have always lived with her; Charles F. Sheriff of Port Aikinson; Mrs. James Newell of Merill, Wis., and Mrs. Belle Vail of Marshalltown, Iowa.

Rev. Jesse Sarles, her former pastor, came from Madison to conduct the funeral services, held at the home Wednesday afternoon. Whitewater Review July 5, 1918
