Funeral services for Gilbert Oberhoff, 70, of Rosenberg were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001 at First Assembly of God, 2512 Ave. N in Rosenberg. The Rev. Edward Johnson officiated. A private family burial at Snake Creek Cemetery in Needville followed the service.

Serving as pall bearers were John Horak, John Stevens, Love Stewart, Carl Guntle, Lloyd Parr, Robert Oberhoff and Timmy Oberhoff. Honorary pall bearers were Robert Thielmann, Calvin Wagner, Dave Berkheimer, the Rev. Travis Beard, R.H. Ellerman, Dr. Dale Faulkner and Dr. Sylvester Vaughns.

Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 20 at Garmany & Carden Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

Mr. Oberhoff died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001 at his home. He was born Feb. 20, 1931 to parents Fritz and Selma Tielke Oberhoff of Needville. He was employed by Jefferson Lake Sulphur Co. and Fort Bend Country Precinct #1. He retired from Coastal Butane in 1994.

He was survived by his friend and lover, Effie Kallweit Oberhoff. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June, 2001.

Other survivors are three sons and their wives, Ron and Mary Oberhoff of Rosenberg, Dr. Randall Oberhoff of Tucson, Ariz. and Tim and Donna Oberhoff of Needville; grandchildren, Robert and Krista Oberhoff of Needville, Timmy Oberhoff of Needville, Linda and Weldon Crowsey and step-great grandson, Taylor Crowsey of Needville; brothers and wives, Erich and Anita of Brenham, Albin and Ruby Lee, Ervin "Shorty" and Evelyn, Henry Lee and Lenora and Nelson and Ann, all of Needville; sisters-in-law, Eddie Ruth Oberhoff of Houston, Esther Oberhoff of Needville, Esther Cauthorn of Houston, Ruth Carlon of Longview, Lois Scott of Springfield, Mo. and Leota Kallweit of Wheatland, Mo. His parents and brother, Ernst and Edwin, preceded him in death.

Gilbert fought a courageous battle with diabetes, congestive heart failure and, at last, kidney failure. He loved his God, his friends and his family. He carried his illness with dignity.
