Erich Oberhoff, 88, of Brenham, husband of Anita (Buerger) Oberhoff, passed away May 22, 2008, in Brenham.

Mr Oberhoff was born January 23, 1920 to Fritz W. and Selma (Tielke) Oberhoff in Beasley, Texas in Fort Bend Co. He was baptized in Beasley, Texas on February 22, 1920 by Pastor Karl Benkendoefer, and confirmed April 14, 1935 by Pastor Vielt in Needville, Texas. On October 12, 1941, he was married to Anita Buerger by Pastor William Scholze in Needville, Texas in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. Oberhoff worked as a farmer, as well as a mechanic, and for over ten years ran a service station on the corner of Main and South Austin St. in Brenham. He later retired from the Parks Department of Brenham. Mr. Oberhoff was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, dancing, gardening, and most of all, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Buerger Oberhoff; sons Bobbie Lyn Oberhoff and wife Linda of Washington; Ricky Oberhoff of Brenham; a daughter, Pat Kohring of Brenham; brothers and sisters-in-law: Albin and Ruby Lee Oberhoff, Erwin "Shorty" and Evelyn Oberhoff, Eddie Ruth Oberhoff, Leonora Oberhoff, and Effie Oberhoff; sister-in-laws and brothers-in-law, Virginia Buerger, Bill and Dottie Buerger, Charlie Buerger, Helen Jacob, and Amber Walker; grandchildren: Russell and Amanda Kohring, Amy Kohring and special friend Michael Appling, Thresia and Keith Schlabach, Erich William Oberhoff, Brazos Clayton Oberhoff; step-grandchildren: Sunny Todd and Dustin Todd; great-grandchildren: Hannah Beth Emshoff, Brette Ashlee Kohring, Blake August Kohring, Hunter Allen Schlabach, and Barrett Russell Kohring

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ernst, Edwin, Henry Lee, Nelson, and Gilbert Oberhoff; son-in-law Bobbie Ray Kohring; sisters-in-law Laverne Oberhoff and Ann Oberhoff, 2 infant sisters; brothers-in-law Walter Buerger and Lonnie Buerger, and a sister-in-law, Mildred Buerger

The funeral service for Erich Oberhoff will be held Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill, with Pastor Jim Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation with family and friends will take place at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening.

Serving as pallbearers are Russell Dean Kohring, Erich William Oberhoff, Brazos Clayton Oberhoff, Keith Allen Schlabach, Otto Wehring, Jr., Ronnie Faithauer, Michael Appling, and Dusty Todd. Honorary pallbearers are Burney and Edna Schramme, Edward and Carrie Scheffer, Eleanor Tielke, and Evelyn Lorenz.

Memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, or to Hospice Brazos Valley.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
