John Hamilton married Wilhelmina Gardiner on 1 November 1882 at Palo Pinto, Palo Pinto County, Texas

Death invaded our city and took from our midst one of our best citizens, J. P. Hamilton. He returned from a trip to Gordon and was tired but did not complain of being sick. Bismark Bower and family were at the Hamilton home and they were all sitting in the yard. Mr. Hamilton went in to answer the telephone and when he returned to his chair, he sank down and was not able to speak again. He moved to Graham in 1905 and had been connected with the business interests of Graham ever since he came. He had been president of the Graham Independent Telephone Company for several years. Mr. Hamilton had been a consistent member of the Methodist Church for many years and he will be missed by the local congregation as he was always present.

survived by his wife; six children - Rosa Moore, Anna Lyon, Frances Bower, John Hamilton, William Hamilton, Pearl Hamilton 12 grandchildren.
