Alternate spelling = Poorbaugh, Burbough or Burbach.
Died age 67 according to inscription reading by WPA. (See my notes below re whether this was a physical reading of the marker or taken from a preacher's record book.) Using date of birth and death from the Calder book calculated age would be 64 years 5 mos 21 days. Census from 1810-40 would narrow his year of birth to between 1784-1790 with the 1850 census (enumerated Aug. 23, 1850)placing the birth about 1786.

The following contributed by member #47403531:
He was only an infant when the family moved from Lancaster Co. to Bedford Co., PA. in late 1788 or early 1789, for he was born in Lancaster Co. (1) (my note: Chpt. 5, p. 110 of Purbaugh Family Book I'm told gives death as Jan. 9, 1853 of liver complaint; burial in Homestead Burial Ground - GE) and baptized in the home with the twins, Susannah and Daniel in Londonderry Twp., Bedford Co., now Northampton Twp., Somerset Co., PA. (2). He was confirmed in Mull's German Reformed Church on Pentacost 1814 (3). He was a farmer all his life living first in Allegheny Twp., Somerset Co. PA. then by 1830 living in Londonderry Twp., Bedford Co., PA. (4) and by 1834 back again in Southampton Twp., Somerset Co., PA. where their daughter Catharine was baptized (5). To settle his estate after his death his real estate was bought by his son-in-law, Solomon Conn, for $239.00 (6). As the family name changed from Burbach to Poorbaugh and Purbaugh Philip was the only son who chose the spelling Purbaugh. In later generations members of other lines, as they moved away from Somerset Co., also chose that spelling.

I (Glenda Eisenhour) chose to use the place of burial as the Poorbaugh Homestead cemetery as given in the Calder book. The WPA "records" as shown at
http://files.usgwarchives.net
/pa/somerset/cemeteries
/wpa/northampton/
mulls-congregation states: "Burials in Mull's Congregation by Rev. B. Knepper" and "The following dates are taken from the records of the Wellersburg Charge of the Reformed Curch which in earlier times included the congregation known as 'Mulls'..." To me this implies there was no physical reading of the tombstone, but the information was taken from a RECORD book of funerals conducted by the preacher which may or may not have been buried at the church (Mull's) cemetery.

The birthdate of July 1786 as reported by another FAG member does not make sense based on their own research. He was the "younger brother of Susanna & Daniel", twins born in May 1786, therefore Philip could not have been born in 1786. He was "baptized with Susanna & Daniel in 1789". Based on this data I've chosen to use the 1788 birthdate as shown in the Calder book.

Inscription

Per WPA records inscription reads: Philip Poorbaugh, Died Jan. 11, 1852, of liver complaint, Aged 67 yrs. Since family book stated he died Jan. 9, 1853, I believe Jan. 11 was probably the date of burial. Two WPA records are found on line for Mull's Cem.-one shows died 1852, the other 1853. Age 67 is probably an estimated age (see note elsewhere pertaining to birthdate).
