Jack Hallie Goodwin was born August 6, 1911 at Manitou, Oklahoma. He was the fourth child and first boy born to Jacie and Belle Goodwin.

Jack served in the United States Navy he was in basic training in San Diego according to the 1930 Census. He was evidently a Seaman in training which started 21 Dec 1929 and he became ill while there. Jack had several medical test and he was honorably discharged and sent home on 29 Aug 1930. We can’t decode the medical report as to what his trouble was for sure. After his discharge , he lived with and worked for a doctor in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

The 1940 census list him living in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was working on the bottom of ships with probably asbestos which did not help his medical troubles. Ann thinks he worked for the Navy as an independent.

Jack married Margaret Belle Sears at Anadarko, Oklahoma on November 30, 1942.
They operated the Manitou café in Manitou, Oklahoma for several years (1945-1954}. Their café was very successful. I remember Uncle Jack’s yummy hamburgers. Jack, specialized in homecooked meals, and Margaret made such good home-made pies, that all the truckers planned their routes to be at Jack and Margaret’s café during lunch time.

Jack and Margaret had two children, a son named Darrell Warren Goodwin, born September 24, 1942 in Anadarko, OK and a daughter named Ann, born April 10, 1945 in Corpus Christi.

In the early 1950s, Jack and Margaret moved to Prescot, AZ after the Doctor's said Jack needed drier air to help his lungs. It did help some, but after a year or two, Margaret begin having heart problems including several heart attacks. They started back home and after stopping in Shamrock, Texas they liked the town as it was on Route 66 and had motels and restaurants from one end to the other so they decided to make it their home. Margaret got a job at the Bumper Café with Butch and Johnnie Graham the owners who became their best friends while in Shamrock. After being there a short time, Jack became ill with lung cancer. Jack died March 20, 1960 at the age of 48 years.
