Simon Hess Beard, 62, of 456 South High Street, formerly of Spring Grove R.D.3, and also of the Littlestown area, died today at 2:45 a.m. at the Hanover General Hospital where he was a patient one month. He was in failing health the past year. Mr. Beard was a carpenter and a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, near Bonneauville. His first wife, Mrs. Emma Jane Pitzer Beard, died in 1940. His second wife, Mrs. Bertha Irene Brillhart Rohrbaugh Beard died in 1956. He leaves 14 children by the first marriage, Roy N. Beard and Mrs. Charles Boyd, Littlestown; Robert J. Beard, New Oxford; Mrs. Ray Haines, Littlestown R.D. 1; John E. Beard, Kenneth E. Beard, Thomas E. Beard, Francis L. Beard and Mrs. Ray Forbes, Hanover; Raymond L. Beard, York; Mrs. Nevin Garrett, Hanover R.D. 2; Mrs. Harold Bonner, Finksburg, Md.; Fred R. Beard, Westminster, Md.; and Helen L. Beard, Baltimore; 33 grandchildren and two stepdaughters, Miss Mary Rohrbaugh and Mrs. Stewart Wagner, York. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2. p.m. at the Little funersl home, Littlestown. The Rev. Mark A. Heiney will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown.
