Mirtle was daughter of Oliver and Sarah Bryan Stout. When she was 2 her family moved to Johnson Co. IL where they lived until she was about 10. The family moved to Stoddard Co. MO where the family spent some time before moving on to Long Lane, Dallas Co. MO where Mirtle met and married Joseph Mills 26 Feb 1903. They lived in MO for the birth of the first two children but were in Kiowa Co. KS by 1910. By 1922, Mirtle wrote to her father that they were located at Palisade, CO where they had purchased a place. Mirtle and Joe were parents of Ennis, Violet, Zela, Mary and Manvel.
