Oliver was son of Aaron Stout and Sarah Shannon. He served in Co. F 39th Infantry/8th Cavalry Indiana Volunteers. Captured during McCooks raid near Newnan, GA and put in Andersonville Prison where he lost the use of one eye. Married Millie Bankston 1869 in Alexander Co IL. Daughter Mary. Married 18 Apr 1872 in Cape Girardeau Co. MO to Sarah Jane Bryan. His joint stone with Sarah includes a Grand Army of the Republic seal. He was a charter member of the Vienna, IL Lodge. After Sarah died, Oliver married Mrs. Annie Eliza Weiss on 20 Feb 1911 at Conway, MO. He married Mahala Dean 18 May 1921 at Marshfield, MO. He was living at the home of son Alex Stout in KS when he died.
