Fred is the second from the left in the photo, which was taken in Oregon City, OR, when attending the funeral of his sister, Emily, in 1926.
Frederick Randolph was the son of William Dudley & Mary Arminta (Owens) Smith. He was the 8th of their 13 children.
He married Susan "Susie" Theresa Carroll (born in Me in November 1862) about 1883.
On June 6, 1900, they lived in Benecia, Solano Co, CA, and had three daughters: Agnes (15), May (13), & Frances (10).
The city of Benecia is located in the San Francisco Bay Area along the north bank of the Carquinez Strait (just east of Vallejo and across the strait from Martinez). Fred worked as a fireman on a steamship. Perhaps this was on the Pacific Mail Steamship Company located in Benecia
They were still living in Benecia on April 20, 1910. The Federal Census indicated they had been married 27 years. Agnes & Francis were still at home. May's name wasn't listed. Susan died on October 27, 1910. She was about 48 years old.
Fred's second wife, Benecia Emily, was shown with him in the Federal Census taken in Benecia on January 16, 1920. He was 56 years old, and she was 34. He was employed as an engineer on a boat.

Fred, age 68, and his wife, Benecia Emily, were living at 13 Marion Street, in Auburn, a suburb in western Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia, when he died from Hypostatic Pneumonia, at 5:30 p.m. on July 11, 1928. He was buried in Church of England Cemetery.
