A notice of Mary's death was published in the Spokesman Review on December 14, 1911:
"Mary A. Hamilton
Mary A. Hamilton, aged 57 years, died yesterday at the residence, 1914 Mission Avenue. She is survived by a husband. The deceased came to Spokane four months ago. The funeral arrangements have not been completed."
A funeral service notice was published in the Spokesman Review on December 15, 1911:
"Mary A. Hamilton
Funeral services for Mary A. Hamilton will be held from the late residence at 1914 Mission Avenue this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will take place at Greenwood cemetery."
Mary's obituary was also published in a Yakima newspaper, which had been her home a few months before her death. She was staying with her sister, Sallie Teel, when she died from Pancreatic Cancer.
"Mrs. Hamilton Dead - Word was received here Wednesday of the death in Spokane of Mrs. W.M. Hamilton, for several years a resident in this city. Deceased had been suffering from an internal malignant growth for the past year, and about two months ago was removed to Spokane for the purpose of consulting specialists. Later an operation was performed but no relief could be given.
Mr. Hamilton accompanied his wife to Spokane and has been with her continually during her illness. Mrs. Hamilton is survived by eight brothers and two sisters. Three of the the brothers, E.S., D.C., and S.D. Smith, are residents of Wapato, two of Klickitat county, one of Vancouver, Wash. and one of Bellingham, Wash. One of the sisters resides in Spokane and the other in Oregon City, Ore.
Death occurred at the home of the sister in Spokane. Deceased was about sixty years of age at the time of death. Of a kind and gentle disposition always, she bore her sufferings during the past year with the same fortitude which marked her life previous to the time when the disease which carried her away made its appearance. She was well known in and about Wapato and the many friends of the family extend their heartfelt sympathies. Remains were interred at Spokane."
