Glenn A. Howell was born in Lockwood in 1908. He was always called Pete. He was 7 years old when his mother, Mary Luella Howell died of TB. From that time on he made his home living between different relatives. He finally went to live with his sister Erma Voorhees's in North Syracuse, NY, where he remained the rest of his life. For a time he drove a truck for the Diamond Motor Express a trucking outfit owned by his sister and brother-in-law Clarence in North Syracuse. During World War II he served with the U. S. Army as an ambulance driver in North Africa. While on duty there, he became involved in a hijacking of a truckload of whiskey destined for the officers. Upon being apprehended the entire company was transferred to Iran for 18 months as punishment. Pete returned to the U. S. and his trucking job. Pete never married and was extremely devoted to and adored by all of his nieces. He died of cancer in 1948.

Mrs. Clarence Voorheese, 454 South Main Street, North Syracuse, has received word that her brother, PFC Glenn A Howell has arrived safely somewhere in Africa. Prior to entering the US Army, PFC Howell was employed by the Lincoln Motor Express Company.

OBITUARY
Glenn A. Howell, a veteran of World War II died April 2, 1948 in the Crouse-Irving Hospital, Syracuse. He was a veteran of nearly 3 years in North Africa and Iran. He is survived by two sisters, Erma Voorhees of North Syracuse with whom he made his home, and Norma Allen of Waverly; four brothers, Ronald of Montana, Raymond of Pulaski, Ernest of Ithaca, and Harold of Newfield. Funeral services were held at the Sears Funeral Home, North Syracuse, on Monday April 5th, the Rev. D. W. Baylis of Andrews Memorial
