Clyde Howell, aged 40, died last Thursday afternoon at the Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, where he had been a patient for several weeks with acute Bright's Disease. He suffered intensely during most of his illness with the disease.
Mr. Howell was one of the most congenial and best liked men in the community and a friend to everybody who knew him. Possessed with a pleasing personality and jovial disposition. [...a true, Howell!]
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Howell, was born and lived the early part of his life in the southern part of town and in the town of Barton. His father was killed by an accident in the woods when he was a young man. It fell upon his to sort of become the head of the large family of several younger brothers and sisters. His mother was in poor health for several years before she died 2 and a half years after his father. He moved to the village some 15 years ago and has been employed at the Condensary as operator of the condensing pan.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a strong supporter of the same. A good loyal citizen in every respect.
His funeral was held Monday afternoon at the house and was very largely attended. There was a most beautiful floral tribute, being to such an extent that it required the second car to carry them to the cemetery.
Mr. Howell is survived by his widow [Maud Baker Howell] and two daughters, Hazel and Pauline both at home and pupils in the Spencer school to whom the most deepest sympathy is extended by the people of the whole community. Also surviving are five brothers, Ray and Glen of Syracuse, Ronald of Lockwood, Harold of Newfield, Ernest of Ithaca, and two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Vorhees [Erma] of Syracuse, and Miss Norma [Howell] Bakeman of Waverly.
