Marriage Announcement in THE WEEKLY ITHACAN
Saturday, July, 8, 1916
VanEtten, New York
“Miss Vera Howell of Spencer and Mason Morey of VanEtten were married by Reverend G M Whittemore at Spencer on June 18th.

Vera and Mason were married less than a month after her mother died and they had no children during their 2 year marriage. Vera died at the age of 24 in 1918 of TB, and is buried in VanEtten Cemetery. Mason remarried and had a large family. Vera was my Grandfather's sister, and he spoke of her often always mourning her early death. My mother was named for this dear sister as well as her own mother. Gertrude Areva Howell was born a year and a half after the death of her Aunt and namesake. Interestingly, as my mother lay on her own death bed in 2004, it was to "Aunt Vera" that she quietly spoke.
