HOUSTON – Willie Maude Baird Cox, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. She was born March 15, 1915, in Houston to Osma Everett Baird and Lizzie Jane Breland Baird. She began her career as a registered nurse in 1936 and retired in 1984. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Houston. She loved her family dearly and felt very lucky to have them with her.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Center in Houston with Father Timothy Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at Houston Cemetery. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Penney Nichols (Larry) of Houston; her daughter-in-law, Linda Cox of Baton Rouge, La.; her grandchildren, Kathy Ritter, Cammy Laughlin, Courtney Galloway, Paul Gerard Cox III and Suzanne McCain; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Gerard Cox Sr., on Oct. 21, 1993; and her son, Paul Gerard "Gerry" Cox Jr., on Dec. 7, 2001.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brody Collums, Gerard Cox, Dalton Collums, Bobby Boydston, Dennis Laughlin and Taylor McCain.
