Note: On 1870 U.S. Federal Census, age is 3/12 (three months), so gravestone birth year of 1867 should be 1870. Birth year of 1870 is further supported by the 1880 census - censuses from 1900 and forward are inconsistent.

Info. combined from Olney Daily Mail and family records:

Mrs. Caroline "Carrie," nee Custer, Haenggi, age 83, the widow of Simon Peter Haenggi of Rural Route 7, Olney, IL, passed away Thursday at Richland Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Haenggi was born near Rankin, IL, the eldest child of Swiss immigrant parents Casper and Caroline Custer. As a young woman, she moved to Chicago where she married her husband Simon May 29, 1893. Leaving Chicago for a short time in Michigan, they eventually moved to Ford County where they took on farming near her parents. Buying their own farm in Olney in 1919, she remained there for the past 35 years.

A sister Mrs. Nellie (Ernest) Kappler of Mt. Pleasant, MI, also survives. Daughters Nellie and Rosa preceded her in death, as well as seven brothers and sisters.

There are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Chapel of Summers-Wilson funeral home with interment in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in rural Claremont. Clergyman: Rev. Silver J. Harshman. Casket bearers: Leo Ritter, Cletus Zuber, Russell Chaplin, Leroy Weiss, Eugene Cutshall, and Joy Jones.
