SALEM RESIDENT CALLED BY DEATH

Joseph Hartnell, 83, Ill Short Time, Dies at His Residence in Salem

Joseph Hartnell, 83 years, a resident of Salem for many years, died at his home in the village Wednesday morning following a short illness.
He was born in Gales Bay, Newfoundland on July 11, 1855, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hartnell. He spent his early life and was educated in his native land, coming to America in 1879 and resided in Brighton township for a few years.
He later moved to Paris Corners and a few years later moved to Salem where he has been for the past 55 years. On July 22, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Gregory at Kenosha.
He was well known in western Kenosha county and especially in the vicinity of Salem.

Has Many Survivors

He is survived by three sons and three daughters: Guy and Clarence Hartnell of Benton Harbor, Michigan; Charles Hartnell of Milwaukee; Mrs. Herman La Pisto of Chicago; Mrs. Fred Richards of Salem and Mrs. Ray Meyers of Benton Harbor, Mich. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren and by four brothers and one sister; Frank of Kenosha; Eli of Twin Lakes; Charles of Milwaukee; Henry of Fond du Lac, Wis., and by one sister in California.
His wife preceded him in death on June 28, 1926 and he was also preceded in death by five children.
The body will be at the Hansen funeral home until Saturday noon when it will be taken to the Salem Methodist Church to lie in state until the time of the services at 2 o'clock, interment following in the family plot in Liberty Corners cemtery.
