Mrs. Martha Hartnell Dies This Morning
Mrs. Martha Hartnell, aged 66 years, and the wife of Joseph Hartnell died at her home in Salem this morning after a short illness. She was born in Newfoundland on January 18, 1860, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gregory. In 1879 she came to this country and made her home at Salem. On July 22, 1879 she was married to Joseph Hartnell.
Those surviving the deceased are her husband, three sons, Clarence and Guy, of Benton Harbor, Illinois, and Charles of Antioch; three daughters, Mrs. Fred Richards and Mrs. Edward Jansen, both of Salem, and Mrs. Ray Meyers of Benton Harbor, Michigan; her mother, Mrs. Edith Gregory of Kenosha, and ten grandchildren; also one brother Joseph Gregory of Denver, Colorado; four sisters, Mrs. Henry Kort, Mrs. William Jensen and Mrs. Nicholas Gloss of Kenosha, and Mrs. Elizabeth Olar of Chicago.
The remains will be at the family home in Salem until Wednesday noon when they will be taken to the Salem Methodist church to lie in state until the time of the service at two o'clock. Interment will follow in the family plot at Liberty Corner's cemetery.
