Winona June Elliott McCausland, 83, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Hillside Christian Church chapel with the Rev. Roy Wheeler and the Rev. Mike Nuthman officiating. Private family graveside services will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Winnie was born June 8, 1926, in Wichita, Kan., to Edward L. and Evelyn Elliott. She and her family moved to Houston when she was 13. She met, Bob, her husband of 55 years, while he was attending dental school, and she was working at M.D. Anderson in the hematology lab. She attended Rice University and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in medical technology. She and Bob married on June 5, 1954, and lived in Houston and Bossier City, La., before making Amarillo their permanent home.

They had three children, Cecily, Mindy and Ross. Winnie was a gifted artist, enjoyed crafting and card stamping, as well as quilting with the ladies from Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Bob and Winnie are longtime members of Paramount Terrace, now Hillside Christian Church, where she taught the Women's Bible Study, and they were also members of the Fishermen Sunday school class. She was past president of the Panhandle District Dental Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert McCausland; three children, Cecily Ledbetter and husband Patrick of Amarillo, Mindy Johnson and husband Dr. Paul Johnson of Worton, Md., and Ross McCausland and wife Gina of Amarillo; a brother, Col. Harry S. Elliott of Stella, S.C.; six grandchildren, Bridget Leigh Bockmiller, Rachel Britney Ledbetter, Jared Nicholas McCausland, Katherine Morgan Johnson, Evan Cole McCausland and Alex Elliott McCausland; and many, many loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Pediatric Liver Center, Texas Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 300630, MC-4-4483, Houston, TX 77230.
