Her sons called her Honey. She could bake any dessert you could think of but when it came to basic cooking, she burned everything. She had a wonderful smile, very soft hands and beautiful blue eyes. Her burial was 16 Dec 1958.
Her first husband, John Thomas Burns (married 1 Sept 1905), was a butcher. In 1910 he left for Wichita, KS on a buying trip for beef and was never heard from again. Grandma spent everything she had trying to find out what happened to him, but nothing was found. One day Aunt Merna answered the phone and a woman asked if she knew anything about a John Thomas Burns and Aunt Merna told her that was her mother's first husband who was a butcher but he went to Wichita to purchase some beef and never returned. The woman then asked if there were any children and Aunt Merna told her yes there were 2 girls and two boys but one of the girls died young. The woman then said, "That's him, he's done it again!"
Before Aunt Merna could ask her name the woman hung up. This has always been a mystery to our family that we haven't been able to solve.
