Joseph Marion Roberts, born in Madisonville, Texas, moved in 1895 to the Texas Gulf Coast with his parents and siblings. He worked as a longshoreman in Galveston.

Joseph married Blanche Idella Williams of Coldspring, Texas, on October 7, 1903. Three children were born to Joseph and Blanche between 1904 and 1908.
They were:
Bennett James Roberts (1904-1989)
Charles Marion Roberts (1905-1906)
Clara Agnes Roberts Franz McClain (1908-2003)

In 1919, Joseph moved his family to Brunner, Texas, which was later was incorporated into the City of Houston in an area known as Houston Heights. Joseph worked as a shipbuilder in Galveston and then for the Houston Light & Power Company as a lineman electrician. He became a member of the I.B.E.W.U. #B66 in Houston.

Joseph and Blanche were devoted to family and friends and were very active in the West End Baptist Church in the Houston Heights.
Joseph died in Memorial Hospital on January 15, 1939, from complications following surgery. The Roberts family really never recovered from this sudden and unexpected death of their beloved husband, father and grandfather at the age of 60.

Joseph Marion is buried in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston, Harris County, Texas. He is buried next to his wife, children, and other family members.
