Samuel was the eighth child of Isaac and Gracie. He grew up in Lawrence County Mississippi. Married in Rankin County to Mary "Polly" Rankin daughter of John Keith and Elizabeth Butler Rankin.
Samuel and Polly along with her parents emigrated to Texas, resided for a time in Polk County, and finally settled in DeWitt County in 1850.
It has been related that Samuel and Sam Houston were scouts together when Samuel was a young man.

Samuel Myers was called into service in the War with Mexico (7-9-1846) by Governor J. Pinckney Henderson. He was listed in Captain James Gillaspie's Company, First Regiment, Texas Monuted Volunteers with Colonel J.C. Hayes Commander.

Samuel Myers is listed as one of the postmasters of Burns Station between 1873 and 1877. Samuel and his wife, Polly, are both buried in the Burns Station Cemetery.
