THOMAS 'BENTON' McMasters, 83 Greenfield, MO, departed this life Sunday, September 26, 1999, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, MO.

Benton was the son of James Harvey and Mary Elizabeth (Montgomery) McMasters, and was born July 20, 1916, in Dade County, MO. He was married to Aileen Carmack on July 26, 1934, in Greeley, Colorado, and to this union two daughters were born. Aileen preceded Benton in October 7, 1965. He married Irene Sawyer September 15, 1967, in Polk County, MO. He was also preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Wallace, Charles, Elvin, Elwood, James Harvey Jr., and Joe Wesley; and a sister Lorene McMasters.

He was a member of Greenfield Main Street Baptist Church and was in his second term as Mayor of Greenfield. He was a Past Worthy Matron of Greenfield Eastern Star, a member of Greenfield Washington Lodge F.M., a member of OCAC, and a member of Greenfield Chamber of Commerce. He had been a City Councilman for 12 years, He was a retired Missouri State Highway Department employee.

Survivors include his wife Irene, of the home; two daughters, Helen Myers, Springfield and Kay Decker, Arcola, MO; three step-daughters, Donna Montgomery, Raymore, MO. Jo Ann Mitchell, Bolivar, and Judy Broz, Fort Wayne, IN; four brothers, Lee McMasters, state of California, Horace and Clyde McMasters, both of Dadeville, MO. and Farrell McMasters, El Dorado Springs, MO; four sisters, Reba Carmack and Phyllis Bishop, both of Lockwood, MO, Bessie Wheeler, Ponca City, OK and Geneva Stanley, Healdsburg, CA; 21 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews,

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 1999, in Greenfield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Harold McMasters and Dr. Todd Decker officiating. Burial followed in Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, Missoui
