G. Louis Ross Dies Friday at Home in Joseph

Funeral services for G. Louis Ross, an early settler of Joseph, who died Friday of a lingering illness, were held in the Joseph ward chapel Sunday, with Bishop Elbert Parker officiating.

Mr. Ross work as a pioneer, his integrity and honesty, were stressed by the speakers, LaVirl Stewart, R. D. Young and Wilford Hansen. Mr. Ross ancestors were pioneers dating back to the Pilgrim fathers.

Special musical numbers for the services were a solo, "I Have Read of a Beautiful City," by Delwin Owens; "Face to Face," a solo by Grace Lott and "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," a solo by Mrs. Woodruff Sylvester of Elsinore, accompanied by Miss Elizabeth Sorensen.

Hartley Greenwood offered the invocation and the benediction was by Robert Wells.

Interment was in me Joseph cemetery. Gay Utley of Sevier dedicated the grave.

Mr. Ross was born May 7, 1861, at Heber City. He was a son of Thomas and Margaret Mecham Ross. When he was a small boy he moved with his parents to Kanosh, and later to Joseph, where he lived 52 years. On May 13, 1885, he married Bessie Ann Anderson of Meadow in the St. George temple. To them eleven children were born, eight of whom survive.

Mr. Ross will be remembered by the older residents of this section as a successful farmer and cattle man. He was always very skillful in treating sick cattle and although he was not especially trained, his advice was sought by neighbors and acquaintances in such cases. During the last ten years Mr. Ross was inactive because of poor health.

Surviving Mr. Ross, besides his widow, are the following children: Louis, Haakan and Lavon Ross of Joseph, Andrew Ross of Jerome, Idaho, Mrs. Marie Beetcher and Mrs. Josie Barret of Salt Lake, Mrs. Melba Anthony of Los Angeles and Mrs. Nora Utley of Sevier. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert F. and Daniel T Ross three; three sisters, Mrs. Polly Ann King of Antimony, Mrs. Matilda Hate of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Mrs. Nancy Jane McMillan of Midvale.
