Robert Francis Ross was born to Thomas and Rachel Smith Ross in Provo, Utah, Utah.

He married Mary Eveline Gay 25 Dec 1873 n Kanosh, Millard, Utah.

Together they had the following eight children; Ada Evelin (), Robert Elmer, Rachel Estella, William Francis, Anna Fransetta, Margaret Elnora (McDonald), Salina Lucinda (Low), and Mary Evelyn (Hyatt) Ross

After the death of Mary Eveline he married her sister Maria Elnora Gay 30 Apr 1890 in the Manti Temple in Manti, Sanpete, Utah.

Together they had the following ten children; Aurilla (Gilbert), Thomas Stanley, Albert Floyd, John Franklin, Abner Gay, Delma Vaun (Grimshaw), James Andrew, (Twins) Ila, Iva (Iva died the day they wee born), and June (Kesler) Ross.
