James Opal Foster was the son of Hamilton J Foster and Flora C Jordan. He was born at Sidney, Iowa on August 3, 1915 and passed away June 21, 1997 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

James Opal was raised in Riverton and received his education there. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp and served during World War II.

On Oct 7, 1944, he married Dorothy Strome at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After their marriage they lived in Delaware for a short time before moving to Shenandoah, Iowa.

James and Dorothy did not have any children.
