Zelma Ballinger, 81, of Sterling, died June 17, 2003, in Sterling. Visitation will be June 22 from noon to 7 p.m. at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be June 23 at 10 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fleming Cemetery.
Mrs. Ballinger was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Yetta to Abraham and Beulah (Cochran) Brown. The family moved to Fleming when she was age 6, and she attended Fleming schools.
In August 1941 she married Floyd Igou Jr. He died aboard the USS Indianapolis during World War II on July 1, 1945.
On Feb. 2, 1947, married Lewis "Tex" Ballinger. They lived on their farm in Fleming until Mr. Ballinger retired in 1989, when they moved to Sterling.
Mrs. Ballinger is survived by daughter Rene Ballinger, Littleton; son Darrell Igou, Denver; brothers Eugene, Finnis and Lenny Brown; sisters Laverne Volz, Erma Loux
and Lavina Stout; grandchildren Tom and Chris Igou, Sam and Tara Hufschmidt, Giner and Al Alferos III; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Abraham and Beulah Brown; husbands Floyd Lewis; and daughter Lynette Faye Alferos.
