Eugene Earnest Brown, 100 ½ of Fleming, Colorado passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023, in Haxtun, Colorado. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 21, at Fleming United Methodist Church with Rev. Al Strauss officiating. Eugene will be laid to rest at Fleming Cemetery.

Eugene was born April 30, 1923, in Yetta, Colorado to Abe and Beulah (Cochran) Brown. He attended and graduated from Fleming High School in 1942. After graduation, he served in WWII in the US Army Air Corp in the China, Burma, India theatre as a flight surgeon assistant. He obtained the rank of Tech 4 and earned the Asiatic Pacific, Good Conduct and WWII Victory medals for his service. He was honorably discharged on February 2, 1946. Eugene was honored on his 100 birthday by the State of Colorado, Senate and House of Representatives, and by the Cheyenne Veteran's Administration for his service in WWII.

Eugene married Marjorie Bledsoe on February 14, 1946, in St. Francis, Kansas. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Logan County for 30 years and at McAtee Renquist for 8 years. Eugene was a charter member of VFW, a member of Fleming Town Council, Fleming United Methodist Church and a Cub Scout Master. He served as Fire Chief (2yrs) for the Fleming Volunteer Fire Dept. retiring after 22 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, rock/barb wire collecting and traveling in the RV. Eugene will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. He was also very honored to be the best man at his grandson's wedding.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Zelma Ballinger, Lavina Stout, Irma Loux, and Lavern Volz; brother Finnis Brown, 2 grandchildren and a daughter-in-law.

Eugene is survived by his wife Marjorie Brown, daughter Peggy (Edward) Brown-Baxter of Desert Hot Springs, CA, son Randy Brown of Oshkosh, Nebraska, brother Lonnie Brown of Aztec, New Mexico, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
