Born in Lafayette, he spent his life here. He was married in 1928 to Alberta Boes who died in 1953, and in 1955 he was married to Vera Worthington. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic church and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Surviving with the widow are four daughters, Mrs. Don Seifers of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Richard H. Haan of Lafayette, Mrs. Michael Pallotto of Chicago, and Kay, at home, and two sons, Jack of Lafayette and David, with the military service in Germany, all of whom were born during the first marriage, and two other sons, Gordon Lee and Gregory Allen, at home, born during the second marriage.
Surviving also are his mother, Mrs. Catherine Thoennes of Lafayette; a brother, Robert of Lafayette, and three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Ketterer and Mrs. John Zink, both of Lafayette, and Mrs. Marjorie Byrd of Michigan City.

THOENNES, Charles S. -- Friends may call at Zahn-Schneider funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Eagles service in funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Holy Name rosary service at 8 p.m. Funeral mass in St. Lawrence Catholic church at 9 a.m. Thursday, Rev. Gordon Gehring officiating; burial in St. Boniface cemetery. Fourteen grandchildren survive.
