Mr. Welker was born February 17, 1907 in Kurreville, the son of George and Amanda (Bryan) Welker. He married Lizzie Newell on February 1, 1936 in Perryville. Mr. Welker worked as a timberman from 1943 to 1969. He was a member of Christ Gospel Church in Millersville.
Surviving are his wife, Lizzie; two sons, Gerald Oscar (wife, Rosemund) Welker and Michael Sr. (wife, Carolyn) Welker, both of Jackson; one daughter, Mrs. Jimmy Sr. (Victoria) Tankersley of Millersville; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Niswonger of Cape Girardeau, Mrs. Dessie Newell of Oak Ridge, Mrs. John Jr. (Jean) Schreiner of Jackson and Mrs. Charles William I (Ollie Marie) Hager of Taylorville, Illinois; two brothers, Lyman Welker of Jackson and Leslie Lee (wife, Beatrice) Welker of East Alton, Illinois; one half-brother, William Welker of Cape Girardeau; one half-sister, Mrs. Clara Gagnepain of Perryville; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jerry Welker; one brother, Otis Welker; three sisters, Sadie Welker, Connie Green and Cloa Stevens; and two half-brothers, Edward Welker and Charles Chester Hunter I.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 1986, at McCombs Funeral Home. Rev. James Brown officiated, with burial following at Old Salem Cemetery in Millersville.
