Lizzie Welker, 88, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Millersville, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at the Lutheran Home.
Mrs. Welker was born July 6, 1914 in Grassy, the daughter of William and Lucy (Quinn) Newell. She married Fred O. Welker on February 1, 1936 in Perryville. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1986. Mrs. Welker was a member of Christ Gospel Church in Millersville.
Surviving are two sons, Gerald Oscar (wife, Rosemund) Welker and Michael Sr. (wife, Carolyn) Welker, both of Jackson; one daughter, Victoria (husband, Jimmy Sr.) Tankersley of Millersville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; one son, Jerry Welker; one granddaughter, Cindy Burger; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Lilly Smith; and three brothers, Charles Edward Newell, Robert Newell and John Newell.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2002 at McCombs Funeral Home. Rev. James Brown officiated, with burial following at Old Salem Cemetery in Millersville.
