Funeral Held For Former Uintah Stockman
Funeral services for Carl Curtis, 67, Union, father of Martin W. Curtis of Vernal, were conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Union Second Ward Chapel by Bishop Sterling Stoker.
Mr. Curtis, a former resident of the Uintah Basin, died Saturday at his residence of a coronary occlusion.
Burial was in Provo City Cemetery.
A native of Gotaland, Sweden. Mr. Curtis was born August 17, 1884, a son of Andrew and Sophia Scoguland Johnson.
At an early age he came to the United States with his mother and they first resided in the Uintah Basin. She was married to Uriah M. Curtis who adopted the son.
Mr. Curtis has been a stockman at Vernal prior to 1927 when he moved to Bingham, living there until 1943. He has been a resident of Union since that time. Since 1927 he had been an employee of Kennecott Copper Corporation and was a shift foreman at the firm's precipitating plant.
He was married to E. Vernon in 1904 at Vernal and they were later divorced. On June 7, 1942, he married Florence Emmett at Midvale.
Survivors include his widow and the following children by his first marriage, another son, Carl A. Curtis, Copperton; three daughters, Mrs. Merle Loader, Orland, California; Mrs. Lois Mortensen, Salt Lake City and Mrs. Mable Barrus, Portland, Oregon and a brother, Martin R. Curtis, Ft. Duchesne.

Funeral services for Carl Curtis, 67, Midvale, were conducted Wednesday, June 27, at 1 p.m. in Union Second Ward Chapel by Bishop Sterling Stoker.
Prayer in the home was offered by Ralph Ashton.
A prelude to the services, "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go Dear Lord," was played on the solovox by Bruce Blesinger.
A selection "Oh My Father," was presented by Collin Wood, Nephi Head, Flora Beckstrom and Emmaline Burgon, accompanied by Myrtle McNamara.
Invocation was offered by Evan Evans.
Eugene Morris was the first speaker followed by a duet, "Stranger of Galilee," by Collin Wood and Verda Nowlan.
Heber P. Burgon told of Mr. Curtis' willingness to share with his neighbors and their children. Bishop Stoker said that Mr. Curtis was active in the church as a member of the priesthood.
The quartet sang, "Let Us Oft Speak Kind Words to Each Other," and the benediction was offered by Leo V. Anderson.
Pallbearers, members of his priesthood quorum, were Harold Madsen, Sylvester Walker, Evan Evans, Delbert Timothy, Allan Howard and W. Eugene Stead.
The grave was dedicated by Stanley Burgon. Burial was in the Provo Cemetery.
In attendance at the funeral were the following friends and relatives from Vernal: Mr. and Mrs. Dee Jenkins, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jenkins, Lewis A. Timothy and Mr. and Mrs. Martin W. Curtis.
