Jewel Georgia Jones of Thomas died Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Watonga Municipal Hospital. She was 85.

Funeral services for the lifelong Custer County resident will be held Thursday, Nov. 16 at Independence Methodist Church near Custer City with the Rev. Jim Powell offiating.

Interment will follow in Mound Valley Cemetery of Thomas under direction of the Thomas funeral home.

Born Jewel Crowder on Jan. 1, 1904, to Thomas E. and Ida (French) Crowder in Colusa, Calif., at the age of 6 weeks she moved with her family to Oklahoma, where she lived the rest of her life.

While growing up in the Custer City area, she attended Independence School, where she played basketball. She graduated from Independence in 1924.

On Aug. 20, 1925 she was married to Walter Jones at Taloga by a justice of the peace. Attending as witnesses were Cecil and Opal Jones of Thomas.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Independence Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for the past 54 years, receiving her 50-year pin in 1985.

Survivors include her husband Walter Jones of Thomas; four grandchildren, Rhonda Jones-Price of Foss, Mike Jones of Dodge City, Kan., Brian Jones of Yukon and Brad Jones of Weatherford; and one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.
