BRIDGEWATER — Miss Vernie Virginia Wright, 97, a resident of Bridgewater Home since July 1987, died Friday (Nov. 18, 1994) at the home.

She was born May 15, 1897, in Montezuma the daughter of the late John Solomon and Nannie Miller Wright.

She graduated from Bridgewater High School and attended Bridgewater College and received a teaching certificate and taught school in Sangerville. She received her nursing degree from St. Luke's in Richmond and following her graduation went to work at Bethany Hospital in Chicago.

She later attended the University of Virginia where she received her bachelor of art degree in nursing education.

She taught nursing at St. Luke's in Richmond until her retirement in 1959. She then worked at Bridgewater College as housemother for a number of years and was a seamstress in her home.

She was a member of Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include two sisters; Mrs. Mary Ethel Dennison of Troutville and Mrs. Barbara Wampler of Route 1, Weyers Cave; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was conducted Sunday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Bridgewater.

Memorial donations may be made to Bridgewater Home. 302 N. Second St., Bridgewater. Va. 22812.

Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
