Mrs. Dora Alice Spitznogle
Mrs. Dora A. Spitznogle, a resident of Madison for many years, died Friday, July 1, in the Lyndon nursing home in Eureka where she had lived for the past several years.
Dora A. Townsend, daughter of Martha Ann Bassett Townsend and Benjamin F. Townsend, was born October 31, 1880, in Iowa. She was married to Millard Spitznogle in 1898 and they moved to Kansas in 1905. To this union were born nine children. Mr. Spitznogle died August 29, 1955. Also preceding thier mother in death were three daughters and two sons.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. James (Mary) McGhee of Madison and Mrs. Eddie (Rosella) Price of Los Angeles, California; two sons, Ben F. Spitznogle of Wichita and Raymond F. Spitznogle of Augusta; one sister, Abigail Shanks, of Madison; one brother, Henry Townsend of Lebanon, Oregon; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Sexton funeral home, conducted by Rev. Virgil Feerer, pastor of the First Christian church. Mrs. Chester Miles was organist, and mrs. Vernon Haughton sang. Pallbearers were Joe Harris, Stanton Garrett, Gene Horst, Ora Barb, and Robert and Albert Greenwood. Burial was in the Blakely cemetery.
Those attending the funeral from out of town were Earl Rose, Messrs. and Mesdames Marlon and Don Rose of Wellington; Messrs. and Mesdames J. D. McClure and Raymond Spitznogle of Augusta; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rhodes of Independence; Mr. and Mrs. Millard Kellison of Maize; Mr. and Mrs. Vick Rose of Riverdale; Messrs. and Mesdames Ben Spitznogle. Jack Kellison and William Loy and family of Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Rose of Belle Plaine; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Spitznogle of Orlando, Florida; Mrs. Melburn Shanks of Hays, and Mrs. Rosella Price of Los Angeles, California.

The Spitznogle Funeral
Madison – Funeral services for Mrs. Millard Spitznogle. Who died Friday in the Lyndon Nursing Home in Eureka, were held Sunday afternoon in the Saxton Funeral Home. They were conducted by the Reverend Virgil Veerer. The soloist was Mrs. Vernon Haughton, the organist was Mrs. Chester Miles and the pallbearers were Joe Harris, Stanton Garrett, Gene Horst, Ora Barb, and Robert and Albert Greenwood. Burial was in the Blakely Cemetery.
Out-of-town relatives who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Spitznogle, Augusta; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Spitznogle and Dr. and Mrs. Frank R. Spitznogle, Florida; Messers. and Mesdames Millard and Jack Kellison, Ben Spitznogle and Arlo D. Rose and Mr. and Mrs. William Loy and family, Whichita; Rosella Price, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. J. D. McClure and sons, El Dorado; Robert E. Rose and Messers. And Mesdames Donnie and Marlan H. Thier Nine Children: Anna Elizabeth (Rose), Mary (Kellison/McGhee), Benjamin Franklin, Nettie Iola, Don Lorenzo, Ora Rosella (Price), Bertha Alice (Shuck), James Millard, and Raymond Frank Spitznogle.
