Alice Rebecca was born in Columbiana County, Ohio where her parents settled for a short time on their way from Chester County, Pennsylvania. Around 1835, the family resettled in Edinburg, Portage county, Ohio. Alice was one of 12 children all but one living to adulthood.
Alice married Matthias Harrison in Portage County in 1854.
They settled in Edinburg before moving to Cuyahoga Falls and then to a farm in Munson, Geauga Co., Ohio, where she would spend 37 years of her life, dying in Chardon while visiting her daughter. She is the only one of her siblings not buried in Edinburg, Ohio.
Matthias and Alice had 8 children. Three died as young children and are buried in Edinburg. The rest of her children except one, settled in Chardon, Geauga, Ohio.
Matthias and Alice had a rather messy divorce in 1892 and Alice received custody of their youngest son, Charles.
Charles died before his mother, at age 25 and is buried in St. Mary's, Ohio.
At her death she was called: "a much esteemed pioneer lady." In her obituary there is no mention of her divorce. It simply says that her husband died "some years ago."
