Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Vernal Taylor, returned in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Feb. 4, 2004.
Vernal was born Nov 6, 1913 in Fairview to Franklin and Priscilla Merrill Taylor. He was the youngest of 12 children and had seven brothers and four sisters. Vernal attended school in Montpelier and Logan but graduated from Star Valley High School.
On Nov 14, 1934 Vernal married his sweetheart, Wilda Linford of Paris, Idaho. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on Dec 22, 1936.
Vernal and two of his brothers farmed together and took care of their widowed mother. He also hauled milk to the creamery with a team and wagon.
Vernal and Wilda bought their own farm just north of Afton in 1943. To make ends meet, the family spent the winter months in Kemmerer so Vernal could work in the coal mines and a winter in Ogden during WWII working in a factory.
Besides farming, milking cows and raising livestock, Vernal drove a school bus for 17 years. In 1973 they sold their farm and moved to Afton.
Vernal was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church positions. He and Wilda served a mission together in the Charlotte, North Carolina Mission for 18 months in 1981. Vernal also served a stake mission.
For many years Vernal and Wilda enjoyed the best of both worlds, wintering in St George and spending summers in Afton.
Vernal is survived by hi wife of 69 years; four children, Gloria Mower, Brent (Naida) Taylor, Linford (Doris) Taylor, and Trenna (John) Gailey; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Marie Creamer.
