Albert Taylor, 36 of Grover was instantly killed Saturday afternoon by lightning while working on the farm of his twin brother, Delbert Taylor 1 mile northwest of Afton.
After dinner the brothers had hitched teams to mowers in the farmyard, and were just driving into an adjoining alfalfa field to begin cutting when lightning struck during a brief storm. Albert Taylor was hit on the head and knocked from the mower. His body, especially his head was mutilated. One horse in his team was instantly killed and the other died within 5 or 10 minutes.
Brother Knocked Down
Delbert Taylor, who was a short distance ahead of his brother, was knocked to the ground by the bolt. His team was frightened and ran away, damaging the mower.
Before Delbert Taylor could recover, his wife, who was in the house ran out, finding Albert Taylor had been thrown onto the cutter bar of the mower, but had not been cut or dragged because the horses were downed in their tracks.
William Yeaman, working in a near-by field, saw the tragedy and ran to the scene. Deputy sheriff Albert Barrus, was called and the body taken to the Star Valley mortuary.
Born in Utah.
Mr Taylor was born Feb 18, 1908 at Mapleton, Utah. He was the first of a family of 12 children to die. His father died several years ago at Afton. Mr Taylor had resided in Star Valley 22 years. He married LaiVivian Jensen of Grover June 29, 1930, at Paris Idaho.
Besides his widow, 3 daughters and a son survive; Laura Dean, Joy Irene, Naomi Gay and Nolan Taylor and his mother, of Afton. 11 brothers and sisters, Vaughn Taylor of Weston, Idaho W.A. Clarence, LeGrand, Raymond, Delbert and Vernal Taylor of Afton; Mrs Lila rogers, Alhambra Cal.; Mrs Nora Papworth, Ogden, Utah; Mrs Mable Maughan, San Gabriel, Cal. and Mrs Ada Creamer of Boise.
Funeral services were held in the Gr0ver ward chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Bp. Delos Gardner in charge.
