After she became a widow to Friedrich Lutz Sr. Maria Elizabeth (Eckerodt/Eckroth) Lutz was around the age of 58, Maria Elizabeth (Eckerodt/Eckroth) Lutz remarried to Francis Hartmann March 14, 1800. (WK-book, page 368)

Please Note: I feel she was around 48 years old when she became a widow to Friedrich Lutz. Sr.

Maria Elizabeth (Ickerodt) Lutz and Friedrich Lutz had the following eleven children:

1. Peter Lutz Brn. around 1770 died by February 1st 1819. He married about 1792/3 Catharine Klingaman, daughter of Peter Klingaman and Mary Barbara (Faust). Peter was administrator of his father's estate in 1798. They had at least eight children. (WK-book, page 370)

2. Friedrich Jacob Lutz Jr. Brn. June 5th 1771 died January 1st 1823. Sponsor in May/June 1788 at baptism of his cousin Jacob Eckroth, the son of George Eckroth and wife Anna Mary (Neuer) Eckroth (Goshenhoppen Registers, page 139; Records, Volume 8, page 347). Friedrich Jacob Lutz married about 1802/03 Anna Catharine Stapleton; actually "Stebelten" was the original Surname. (March 4th 1783-26 February 1858). Both are buried in Jacob's Union Church Cemetery, Jacksonville, Lehigh County, PA. (WK-book, page 370)

3. John Lutz Brn. April 11th 1773 died July 10th 1819. John Lutz married about 1800 Froneca (Veronica) Hamm born 1774 died 1885 daughter of Daniel Hamm and Anna Mary Sechler. They had at least 7 children. Daniel Hamm sold the first parcel (s) of land for Jacob's Church, Jacksonville, Lynn Township, Northampton (now Lehigh) County, PA. (WK-Book, page 370)

4. Christina Lutz Brn tentatively in 1780 after return of Friedrich Lutz from Military service in the field. Christiana Lutz may have married ____ Hill, referred to in the "History of Lehigh County, PA", 1914, page 844. (WK-Book, page 370)

5. Christian Lutz Brn. 1781 died July 2nd 1872 in Mifflinville, Columbia county, PA. He married about 1811 Eva Mary ____? born April 11, 1785, died June 1st 1868. They had at least seven children. (WK-book, page 370)

6. Elizabeth Lutz Brn. around 1782, died May 25th 1863 in Mifflin Township, Columbia County, PA. She married about 1833 Abraham Mosteller brn. about 1778 died 13, November 1849. They had a least three children. (WK-Book, page 370)

7. Catharine Lutz Brn. November 8th 1783, died March 15, 1871. She married August 29, 1803 in New Tripoli, Lynn Township, Northampton County, PA to Jacob Kraus (brn. March 8th, 1783 died October 24th, 1861) son of George and Magdalena Kraus. Both are buried in the Ebeneyes Church Cemetery, New Tripoli, PA. They had 12 children. (WK-Book, page 370)

8. Henry Lutz Brn. August 20, 1784 baptized November 21st, 1784 at Christian Henrich's Mass House at Spitzenberg (AKA:Asperum Collem) Sponsors: Christopher Eckenroth and his wife Anna Margaret (Henrich) Eckenroth; (uncle and aunt of child) (GR, page 95, Records, Volume 3, page 272) died 1884. He married about 1811 Magdalen Follweiler brn. Jan. 27th, 1798 died March 18th, 1885; daughter of Daniel Follweiler and Mary Dorothea Leaser. Both are buried in Jacob's Union Cemetery; Jacksonville, Lehigh County, PA. (WK-book, pages 370-371)

9. Anna Mary Lutz Brn. 1785/6. Anna Lutz married by April 1814 probably the Henry Hartmann referred to him "History of Lehigh county, Pennsylvania", 1914, page 844, possibly confirmed in Goshenhoppen Registers (GR, page 246, Records, Volume 61, page 191). Henry Hartmann was the son of Francis and Angela (Herb) Hartmann of Hereford Township, Berks County, PA. (WK-book, page 371)

10.Jacob Lutz Brn. on or after 1786 since he appeared to be the oldest of two minor children under 14 years of age on October 23, 180. Jacob married on February 10, 1809 Catharine Hartmann, daughter of Francis and Angela (Herb) Hartmann (GR, page 92; Records, Volume 3, page 369). (WK-book, page 371)

11.Daniel Lutz Brn. on or after 1787 since he appeared to be youngest of two minor children under 14 years of age on October 23rd, 1800. I believe he married about 1806 Catharine ____?. He served as a witness at the wedding of his brother Jacob on February 10th, 1809. By 1812 he had moved to the Buffalo Creek area of Armstrong/Butler County, PA., 40-50 miles North of Pittsburg, PA. On May 30th 1812, while visiting "Buffalo", Father Peter helbron baptized Catharine born in 1807, Sponsors: George Reinszell and Catharine Dapper/Tapper ("Catholic Baptisims in Western Pennsylvania, 1799-1828", "Fr. Peter Helbron's Gremsburg Register", page 63; Records, Volume 28, page 136). (WK-book, page 371)

Maria Elizabeth's Husband Friedrich Lutz Sr. was the son of John Peter Lutz who immigrated to America October 9, 1747 on the ship, "Restauration", that landed at Philadelphia, John Peter Lutz (1720-1803), his wife Mary, and his children Friedrich, age 5 (1742-1798) and Elizabeth age 2 (1745-1795) disenbarked and as required subscribed to the oath of Allegiance to the government (Pennsylvania German Pioneers", Strassburger & Hinche, Volume 1, page 365; Volume 2, page 392). Maria Elizabeth's (Ickerodt/Eckroth) Husband, Friedrich Lutz Sr., was only 5 years old at the Arrival to America. (WK-Book, page 365)

Peter Lutz Sr. did not appear on the 1762 Tax List of Lynn Township, Northampton County, However, sometime between 1764 and 1769/ 1770 (Probably in 1765, earliest date of warrant), Peter Lutz Sr. purchased at 187 +6% acre (198.22) tract of land (Originally warranted to Peter Trees/Fries/Vries on March 29, 1738) located in Lynn Township, Northampton County about 1/2 mile West of the home of John and Anna Margaret Eckroth. In about 1769/1770 Peter Lutz Sr. son, Friedrich Lutz brn. 1742, married Maria Elizabeth Eckerodt/Ickerodt/Eckroth, the oldest daughter of John and Anna Margaret. Please note: The date of marriage is based on the dates of birth of their oldest children. (WK-Book, page 366)

Mrs. Anna Heinly Schellhammer, wife of Rev. Oliver P. (National #52275) in 1906 based on the following Revolutionary service of Friedrich Lutz. "In August 1776 they participated in the Battle of Long Island under General Mifflin and in the retreat to White Plains and through New Jersey. (Certificate of Service signed by Dr. William H. Egle, Pennsylvania State Archivest and Editor of "Pennsylvania Archives"). (WK-Book, page 366).

On June 18, 1777, Friedrich Lutz was back in Lynn Township and serving as a Sergeant in the 6th Company, 3rd Battalion of the Northampton County Militia together with Corporal Christopher "Stophel" Eckroth/Eckerodt and Private 6th Class George Eckerodt/Eckenroth, both his brothers-in-law. (History of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, 1914, page 154)

On August 7, 1777 in Northampton County he was the 66th signer of the Oath of Allegiance to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In May and June 1780 he was noted as a member of Captains Conrad Reder's Company in the 6th Battalion as a substitue for Daniel Neyer/Meyer/Neuer/Meijer/Nayer/Moyer/ and again in Captain Mathias Probst's/Brobst Company (Pennsylvania Archives, Series 5, Volume 8, pages 438 and 450). One December 28, 1782, Peter Lutz Sr. Concluded an agreement with his son, Friedrich Lutz, selling his holdings of 290 acres to him in return for payments to his daughters and life support for his wife and himself. (Northampton County Deed Book F1, page 425).

The property was probably conveyed by deed polls dated no later than 1785/6 (Copies of Deeds not formally recorded and therefore have not been found).

The land in Lynn Township, 198 acres, was warranted, so surveyed for and patented to Friedrich Lutz on January 10, 1788, April 2, 1788 and October 29, 1788, respectively. (Warrant #142; Survey #C-116-119, Patent # P-14-341; Pennsylvania Bureau of Land Records; Northampton County Deed Book 104, page 316. (Please see Photo sketch of the tract of land in Lynn Township).

Please note: The house and property of the 187 +6% acre (198.22) tract in Lynn Township and the log house of Friedrich Lutz show it located in the heart of Slateville, and the town Steinsville located on the Southeaster boundary of the property. (WK-book, page 366)

Prior to 1782, Friedrich Lutz had built a 2-story log house on the land which he believed was part of the 187 +6% Tract of Land. However, the 1788 survey proved that the log house was outside his property and actually stood on the ground belonging to the original grantee, William Stump. In 1811, Friedrich Jacob Lutz Jr., the son of Friedrich Lutz, purchased the 10 acre tract of land on which the log house stood from Conrad Stump, heir of William Stump. (WK-book, page 366)

Please note:
According to Mr. Ziegler who visited the site in November 1976, the log house was in poor condition. The roofing was in very poor condition. The walls were covered with heavy vines, and the center of the beam had a very large split in it. The house was infested with woodchurch mice. Nonetheless, the house was, at that time, was to be moved to Lynnport for the restoration of Fort Everett. In 1978 it was dismanteled for that purpose. Further information on the remaining 90 acres of woodland property conveyed to Friedrich Lutz by his father in 1785 can be found in the Warren J. Ziegler's "Lutzberg" and "Peter Lutz" Book. On April 21, 1798, Friedrich Lutz and his wife Mary Elizabeth (Eckerodt/Eckroth)Lutz, conveyed their property as an undivided whole to their sons: Peter, Friedrich Jacob, and John to be divided equally among them (Lehigh County Deed Book 104, page 317, copy not obtained).

On September 27, 1799, individual deeds were made out dividing the property equally among the three sons (Lehigh County Deed Book 104, page 320; Book 26, page 155; and one not yet found. (WK-book, page 367)

By May 12, 1798, within 3 weeks after conveying his property to his sons, Friedrich Lutz died intestate. Between 12-16 May 1798 his eldestson, Peter, submitted an inital inventory and appraisal of his father's personal property, made by Samuel Everett and George Nair/Meyer/Meijer/Moyer/Neuer/Nayer/ dated May 12, 1798, when he applied for letters of Administration to the Northampton County Orphan's Court. On May 16, 1798, Peter Lutz, "The oldest son", Christopher "Stofel" Eckerodt/Eckroth/Eckenrode, and John Neyer/Meyer/Neuer/Nayer/Meijer/, the next door neighbors, were issued letters of administration for the estate of Friedrich Lutz, deceased. The final account was filed with the court on October 22, 1800. (Copies and Abstracts- Northampton County Probate File #1857). (WK-book, page 367)

Surname has gone by: Eckerodt/Ickerodt/Ickerott/Eckenrodt/Eckenroth/Eckenrode/Eckroth/Eckrott/Eckrodt/Eckroadt/Eckroate/Eckroat but commonly used "Eckroth" for the later Maiden Surname.
