Henry Eckenroth possible husband to Susanna Steissen/Stysi or other (see other info below). The one who married Susanna Steissen is thought to be buried at Elizabethtown area.

Henry Eckenroth and his brother John arrived In Philidelphia in 1743.

Submitter's note: I would suggest further research in the parentage of Henry Eckenroth here. More research needed.

Please note: John's wife and 5 children were with them.(This may be John Petrus Ickerodt brn. 1700 and his wife; Henry Eckenroth would be their child whom married Susanna Steissen/Stysi/Stiesi.)

The ship was the snow Charlotte, meaning the ship was a snow, a square rigged vessel.

Submitter's note: I believe Henry married Susanna in a German Reformed Church.

Henry married Susanna Stiessen/Steissen and indeed built a Catholic chapel in his backyard, so to speak, intitled the Donegal Mission of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and was a mission stop serviced by the Conewago Jesuits and later by those in Lancaster. It was built over a spring so that the faithful who traveled far and wide could keep their food cool.

Henry Eckenroth and Susanna Steissen's children are:

1. Mary Magdaline (Eckenroth/Eckenrode) Felix. Born May 1752, died February 19th 1819. Mary Magdaline was the Wife of Stephen Felix; Stephen Felix was born in Alsace Germany, in 1741, emigrated to this country when a young man and settled near Hummelstown in Dauphin county, where he engaged in farming and followed it through life. He died Oct. 21, 1821, aged eighty years. He married Mary Magdelena Eckenroth, of Elizabethtown, who died Feb. 19,1819. Stephen Felix was prominently identified with the early history of Pennsylvania and was one of the pioneer members of the Catholic Church, worshipping in the Mission Church in Elizabethtown, which was erected in 1779. (Page 637 Biographies from Historical and Biographical Annals by Morton Montgomery)

2. Christian Eckenroth/Eckenrode died March 17th 1806 Lancaster Co., PA. Married Catharine Sneeringer about 1788

3. Henry Eckenroth/Eckenrode died 1809-1810 Mt. Joy Township Lancaster Co., PA. married Magdalen
Please note: The will of John Sneeringer of Conewago Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, dated April 23, 1804, and probated May 16, 1804, relates that his wife was named Juliana and his five children were Lawrence, Catharina who married Christian Eckenroth, Christina who married Jacob Shorb, Margaretha who married Adam Kehlenberger, and John.

"But because my above said Daughter Catharina did die, and left behind her Six Children of whom are three with me which I raised up and three of them are with Henry Eckenroth in Donegall" (i.e. Donegal/Mt. Joy Twp, Lancaster County)

(File 149, Book A3, page 233, a copy can be obtained through the Adams County Historical Society)

4. Julianna Eckenroth/Eckenrode married Conrad Gross

5. Simon Eckenroth/Eckenrode married Sarah

6. Susanna Eckenroth/Eckenrode married 1st John Felix, then 2nd married to Herman Orendorf

7. Catharine Eckenroth/Eckenrode marrived 1st to Lawrence Scandel by 1772 then 2nd to John Krim/Grim around 1796

8 Peter Eckenroth/Eckenrode died before Jan. 1806 married Mary Eva around 1771

9. Joseph Eckenroth/Eckenrode died around 1784 Mount Joy Township, Lancaster Co., PA. Joseph Married Teresa Ohrendorff around 1775 (WK-book page 71)

When you visit the farm and the spring, it is still there as is the barn he built, the house and the spring house. The fieldstone basements, the original door and window frames are still there. All done in the tongue and groove style.

Please note: Henry's brother John was killed by Indians while plowing his fields during the French and Indian War in the year 1757. Please note: (This would be John Eckroth who possibly married Anna Margareth.)

Place of burial is still unknown at the moment as of 10-21-08

Whereupon the court do appoint Peter Rhoads/(old name "Roth") as guardian of Henry Eckenroth's children and they were appointed accordingly. (WK-book page 102)

Only an abstract was available to the author. This abstract establishes the maiden names of the spouses of Henry Eckenroth and Peter Keas (Actually Kehs/Kass); the approximate year of death of Henry Koon (Actually Kuhn); and of course, identifies the guardian of their respective children.

As a matter of interest John Kuhn, Sr.-1, Henry Kuhn-2, his son; and Peter Keas (Kass/Kehs) son-in-law of Henry Kuhn-2, all lived in Cedar Creek, Macungie Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Peter Rhoads was Henry Eckenroth's neighbor living just South of Friedrich Leaser and just east of Christian Henrich in Lynn Township, Northampton County.
