Submitters note:
“For some reason Findagrave had merged my Original one with a different with a similar name. See my photo sources. The original had correct marriage date of 1727.
I do not know who merged these together but now I am having to deal with four other people who have been made into one.”

John Eckrodt/Ickroth/Eckenroth arrived In Philidelphia in 1743.
John arrived with his wife and 5 children along with this brother Henry (Henrich).

Please note: This may be the order of children, It is not fact at the moment and should not be counted fact until fully researched.

1. John Peter Eckenroth married Elizabeth Margaret?__ Hermany__? On June 10th 1758, Peter Ecrot (Eckroth) was listed as owning a draught horse by Constable John Holder in his report to Sheriff John Rinker of "the number of Wagons, Draught and Pack horses in Lynn Township, Northampton County" (History of Lehigh County, PA, 1914, pages 96 and 97. He died around 1767-68 He had four children: Christian who married Catherine Anna Schlosser then Mary Magdalen Schlosser; Henry, who married Elizabeth Schipfessel; Adam who married Barbara Nayer, and Eva Mary (Magdalen) who married Philip Burkhart. See bio: John Peter Eckenroth

2. John H. Eckenroth married possibly Anna Margaret(Possibly had 7 children)
a. Anna Margaret brn April 25th 1744 Philadelphia Co., PA. m. on 14 August 1763, at the age of 19, Conrad Beverts (Bevertz) in Philip Schmid's house near Cedar Creek, Macungie Twp., Northampton Co., PA. The 2nd marriage was at Matthias Keffer's house in Allemangel on 8 May 1785. Witnesses were Anna Margaret Eckroth, her brother Henry Eckroth, and her brother-in-law, Matthias Keffer. See bio: Friedrich Jacob Lutz Jr.) Her 2nd Husband was Francis Hartman (WK-book page 365) She married widower Francis Hartman on May 14th 1800 in the Church at Reading, PA. (probably St. Peter's) in the presence of witnesses -Sabastian Allgeyer and Eva Fricker (GR, page 183; Records, Volume 8, page 391). (WK-book 367)
Please note: Francis Hartman's 1st wife was also named Mary Elizabeth.

3. Mary Elizabeth Eckeroth married Matthias Keffer 1781. She was about 30 years old at that time. (WK-page,583) Please note: It is possible that this may be Maria Christina Eckroth brn. 1758. If this were the case, she would be around 23 years of age when she married Matthias Keffer.

4. John Wilhelm Eckenroth (Ransomed by Indians?) On 19 Sep 1743, JOHANN WILHELM ECKROTH, age 18, arrived in the ship Lydia, James Abercrombie, Master, from Rotterdam. He took the oath of allegiance in Philadelphia the next day, 20 Sep 1743

5. Henry Eckenroth married Susanna Steissen Feburary 26th 1747-49. He He was instumental in establishing St. Peter's Roman Catholic congregation in Elizabethtown having built about 1752 the little log chapel on his own farm about two miles east of Elizabethtown. (Records of American Catholic Historical Society of Philadelphia", Volume II, page 31-32, Volume V, page 339). Please note: It is possible this is the Henry, who died in 1806, Married Elizabeth__? and had 6 children rather than Susanna Steissen) Please view Henry Eckenrode death 1806 for further information.)

6. Anna Margaret Eckenroth possibly baptised Nov. 17th 1746 At John Eckroth's house but more likely she was baptized at the Priest's house. She married Conrad Baver/Biebers/Beverts/Beebers/Bevertz in Philip Schmid's house near Cedar Creek, Machungie Township, Northampton Co., PA. (GR, page 17; "Records", Volume 2, page 332).

Please note: Anna Margaret #6. may be the one born April 25th 1744 and batpized Nov. 17th 1746 along with her sister Catharine. (Joseph)

Please note: Anna Margaret brn between 22nd April and 25th of July 1744 may have been the 6th child born. In the (Northampton County Orphan's Court Book D, page 65.
Anna Margaret was baptized "In the priest's house"; Sponsers, Wendel Helffer and his wife Appolonia (Goshenhoppen Registers, page 8; "Records", Volume 2, page 323).

The ship was the snow Charlotte, meaning the ship was a snow, a square rigged vessel.

Visited by Father Theodore Schneider in Records on November 17th 1746 (In John Eckroth's House).
Please note: This suggest that it was a baptisim of Catherina Eckroth at her parents house that day.

John Eckroth is thought to be buried on his farm land in Lynn Township, Northampton, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.

Records made by David Schultz diary says: "John Eckroth was shot dead by the Indians in 1757 while plowing fields, daughter injured but survived."

Variations of the name found at Goshenhoppen are as follows:Eckenrodt (Eccorod),(Eckorod),(Eckerott)

The Surname has many variations: Eckenroth/Eckenrode/Eckenroad/Eckroth/Eckrode/Eckroade/Eckroate/Eckroat/Eckroad

In the years 1748-57 there could possibly have been earlier Church burials. Father Schneider mentions only a few burials and the dates are missing. It was only after the arrival of Father de Ritter (DeRitter) that more exact and accurate records were kept and efforts made to continue zealously the missionary work of his predecessor.

The burials of former parishioners also were buried in Reading cemetery at Old Neversink Mountain, the burials in the old cememetery in the rear of the present Church, the burials at St. Henry's cemetery at Moselem near Kutztown and the Deppen family cemetery at Mt. Pleasant near Bernville to the North of Reading.

It is unclear at the moment who John Eckroth/Eckenroth may be. It could be that of:

1. Franciscus Eckeroit Christening 26, June 1697 of Koblenz-Niederber, Rheinland, Preussen Germany. Catholic/ parents: Joanni Eckeroit and Catharinae

2. Joannes Petrus Ickerodt(Eckerodt) brn. 03 NOV. 1700 of Koblenz-Niederberg, Rheinland, Preussen Germany whose parents of Joannes Petrus Ickerodt(Eckerodt) was Joanni Ickerodt(Eckerodt)and Catharinae. Joannes Petrus Ickerodt also had a sister;

3. Anna Barbara Ickeroth Christened 14 April 1702. Koblenz-Niederberg, Rheinland, Preussen.
Submitter's note: "She may have been the wife of John Kuhn who died in 14 February 1751 Macungie Township, Berks County, PA. Further reseach is needed to determine this connection." (Joseph)

also another sister named;

4. Odilia Eckerott Christening July 24, 1708. All of Koblenz-Niederberg, Rheinland, Preussen. Submitter's note: "She may have married into the Meyer family but not proven at the moment". (Joseph) Please note: Ottilia Meyer was a sponsor for Mary Ottilia Kuhn (3) baptisim between 12 August and 31 December 1745. (GR, page 9; "Records", Volume 2, page 324). Odilia Eckerott may have also may have married into the Bawer/Baver/Bieber family, wife of John Baver but has yet to be proven at the moment.

5. Anna Margaretha Ickerott(Eckerott)Christened 24 AUG. 1709. Koblenz-Niederberg, Rheinland, Preussen.

It also suggest that John Eckenroth/Eckroth may have been at the age 18 when he came to the America's; which suggest he would of been born around 1725. (That being the son of John Eckenroth who may have also been captured by the Indians and held on ransom.)

Research has also suggested that he may have been born around 1709 due to finding the marker of Anna Margaretha Eckenroth (in) in the Adams, Co, Cemetery. It is unclear if this was his wife or the possiblity this is the sister of Joannes Petrus Ickerodt brn. 1700.

Please note:The John Eckenroth listed here may be the Child of John Eckenroth who died in 1757 and was married to Anna Margareth

Please note: Please view John Petrus Ickerodt for John's possible father brn. November 3rd 1700.

Information provided below of stories of Eckroate history.

Ovid E. Eckroate wrote some information about the Eckroate family in which tells this story:

"An interesting story survives for the Eckroate ancestry. It seems there were three Eckroate brothers being pursued by Indians alone the river. (What river? perhaps the Ohio). Two of the brothers were caught and killed. The remaining brother escaped by hiding in the roots of a tree. It is from this surviving brother that the Eckroate lineage supposedly descended. The Eckroates that settled in Ohio were supposed to have come from Pennsylvania." (Ovid E Eckroate 9 March 1990.)

submitter's note: I feel the river may have been the Ontelaunee River or Maiden Creek or a river close to Bally,PA. or the Susquehanna river"(Joseph)

Please note: On the (WK-book, page 23) It is noted that on Aaron Donat's "Farm of 80 acres was situated near Wanamaker and on (this) the land of Aaron Donat a man named Eckroth (John Eckroth) was shot dead ( on 28 April, 1757 by the indians) while plowing, and his daughter was wounded." (WK-book, page 23)

Please note: The land in 1984 was owed by Wayne Kistler, also a decendant of Donat, Lutz and Eckroth. (WK-book, page 23).

Please note: On June 21, 1757, two months after John Eckroth was killed, Friedrich Lieser/Leaser, aged 19, born in Germany (1738) enlisted for 3 years in Captain John Nicholas Wetherhold's Company, First Battalion, Second Pennsylvania Regiment. (WK-book, page 26)

Please note: Christian Henrich, whose home was consistently used as a Mass House until his death in 1798. This homestead was on Sharp Mountain which is found recorded in the registers as "Monte Acuto" and similar variations. Sharp Mountain, now more commonly known as the "Spitzenberg" is near the village of Kempton in Albany Township. Other Catholic families living in this corner of Berks County were those of Adam Stahl(er), James and John George Spring(er), John Fuss, and some members of the Lorentz family. In neighboring Windsor Township, Berks county, lived Casper Thum and Andrew Grett (Great), whose house was used at time for religious services. (MBSC-book, page 58)

Submitter's note: Johann Theodor Eckrodt brn. 1700 fits well with the William Kirkpatrick theory but still needs to be research and confirmed.

Please note: Theodor is also known as: Di (e)rich / Diderich/ Dietrich/ Dirk/ Theodorus

Submitter's note: Possibility? There is another Johannes Eckrodt brn.1655 (188954919) of Bottrop who married Margaretha (Vienken/ter Vehn/ter Venhne) brn. 1669 of Bottrop. A research of this family is a must for further info into the Eckrodt family.

Submitter's note: There is a chance this may be "John Eckroth" who was killed in Lynn township April 28, 1757 by an Indian while plowing his field. It is also interesting to know that his wife was "Margaretha (Geddinck)" It would be interesting to know if her first name is Anna. I would suggest further research.

Submitter's note: There were seven living children at the death of John Eckroth in 1757. Three sons are named: Henry, Georg, Christophel.

Submitter's note: There is a Johann Dietrich Eckel that came on the ship Phoenix November 22, 1752 Reuben Honor, Captain from Rotterdam, last from Cowes. This Joan Eckroth/Eieckrodt also is supected to have a brother named Henrich Eieckrodt which makes it even more intersting for further research into the family. They were married in the same year except Henrich/Henry was married April 27th, 1727 sources: http://data.matricula-online.eu/en/deutschland/muenster/billerbeck-st-johannes-der-taeufer/KB004_2/?pg=17

Please note: "Kirchberg" in German, may have also been known as, "Churchville" in Bally, Berks Co., PA.
Update note: Kirrberg, France may have been the town. There are a lot of early Catholic relatives from Kirrberg, France that show up on the Robert and Alice Ship Sept. 3rd 1739. The Greth document shows people also from St. Avold of France.

Services for the burial may have happend at the home of Jacob Pawlitz, who was one of th early Catholic settlers along with the Staab, Beverts (Bibers/Biebers), Keffer and Eckenroth families. (MBSC-book, page 57)

Submitter's note: Two of the children may have been killed by Indians. "Need further information to determine this. Ovid Eckroate mentioned a story about the Eckroate family that there were three Eckroate brothers; two were killed by Indians the other survied by hiding in the roots of trees near a river. It is suppose to be from this surviving brother that the "Eckroate" decended. The Eckroates' were from PA.

Submitter's note: The information by Ovid may indeed be a older generation of Eckroths' than mentioned here.

Submitter's note: It is presumed by myself that Joan Dirk, Eckroth is the son of Dietherich Eckrodt and Sibilla (Mollers) Eckrodt. It has not been proven that they are the parents but lived in the same town, Billerbeck, Germany.

Sumitter's note: It is possible that John Dirck Eckroth may be the one listed as "188677236" Johann Theodor Eckrodt born 1700; whose parents are Herman Eckrodt born 1665 and Helene born 1667
As a note: The name "Theodor" is an endearment for "Dietrich" or "Dirck"

Submitter's note: John Eckroth is thought to be buried on his farm land in Lynn Township, Northampton, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.

Submitter's note: Records made by David Schultz diary says: "John Eckroth was shot dead by the Indians in 1757 while plowing fields, daughter injured but survived."

(WK-book, page 23)

Please note: The land in 1984 was owed by Wayne Kistler, also a decendant of Donat, Lutz and Eckroth. (WK-book, page 23).

Please note: On June 21, 1757, two months after John Eckroth was killed, Friedrich Loeser/Lieser/Leaser, aged 19, born in Germany (1738) enlisted for 3 years in Captain John Nicholas Wetherhold's Company, First Battalion, Second Pennsylvania Regiment. (WK-book, page 26)

Please note: Christian Henrich, whose home was consistently used as a Mass House until his death in 1798. This homestead was on Sharp Mountain which is found recorded in the registers as "Monte Acuto" and similar variations. Submitter's Note: The Eggenrodde/Kreyensmit connection: There is a possibility that Henricus Kreyensmit born March 21, 1709 May be involved. His Parents were Joannes Kreyensmit/Kreienschmidt and Anna Eggenrodde/Eckenrode. Further research is needed to determine a relationship through the family by possible guardianship. (Joseph)

Submitter's Note: The family Stryck is associated with the family Eggenrodde in the town of Eggerode in North Rhein Westfahlia Germany. The family Stryck is of Swiss origin.

Submitter's Note: The original town "Eckenroth" is located in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. The Latin term "Ogelrode" was given to the people of that area. Eckenroth is also adjacent to the town of "Roth". An old Catholic Swiss School was set up. The town of Eckenroth also has a Celtic/Gaeltig past.

Submitter's note "In English": Egenroth is part of a settlement of Heidenrod of Rheingau-Taunus region.
The place is part of a founding of the Katzenelnbogener. This little village area of Heidenrod was called "Erechenrod" around 1260. The Cloister Gronau founded it. In the year 1569 and 1631, Egenroth had eight Households, in 1634 there was only four, in 1648 was Egenroth abandoned. The settlement is located east of the Cloister Gronau and of the Altenberges.

Submitter's Note: The Low German name used for Koblenz during the old era is "Kowelenz".

2. Joannes Petrus Ickerodt(Eckerodt) brn. 03 NOV. 1700 of Koblenz-Niederberg, Rheinland, Preussen Germany whose parents of Joannes Petrus Ickerodt(Eckerodt) was Joanni Ickerodt(Eckerodt)and Catharinae. Joannes Petrus Ickerodt also had a sister;

3. Anna Barbara Ickeroth Christened 14 April 1702. Koblenz-Niederberg, Rheinland, Preussen.
Submitter's note: "She may have been the wife of John Kuhn who died in 14 February 1751 Macungie Township, Berks County, PA. Further reseach is needed to determine this connection." (Joseph)

also another sister named;
