Her niece Jane Porter-Snow stated in a telephone interview on 5 Oct 1998 that Esther had arthritis in her hands and feet. She liked to put sugar on her tomatoes...plus salt and pepper. Esther was living in a rooming house with another woman later in life. She was very interested in her relatives.
Her grandnephew, Wm. Fred Porter of East Liverpool, OH, stated on 5 Oct 1998,by phone that he was about 16 years old or so when he and his grandmother,Margaret V. Allison-Porter, drove to Dover, OH, or somewhere near there for a
visit. She lived on a very large farm outside the town. She was tiny and had white hair. There were lots of walnut trees about the farm, and she would always mail walnuts to her sister, Margaret, and family every year.
I remember going to her sister's, Margaret Porter's, south of Newell, WV, in the 1950s for dinner. I didn't know who she was (I didn't even know that Margaret Porter was my great aunt, too, at the time). My brother, sister, and I all dressed up for the dinner. I don't remember her, and it wasn't until the 1980s that I finally asked my mother why we had gone there for dinner. Esther had come in from Ohio, and she wanted to see her great nephews and great niece. I wish I had paid more attention at the time!
